The Jeep_® Cherokee is a bit of a record-breaker. It has been on the market for 44 long years and has clocked up over four million sales in its many and varied iterations.

It is the European standard-bearer for the SUV and the Crossover, the kind of vehicles that are as at home in the city as on rough ground in rough weather. But despite its growing success on the European market of recent years, the Cherokee has not rested on its laurels and has continued to pull rabbits out of the hat. Last September brought the unveiling of the New Cherokee. Just a few months later at the last Geneva International Motor Show, Jeep_® debuted its more glamourous and metropolitan sibling, the Cherokee S, and the tougher, more robust Trailhawk. Both versions will land in Europe in the second quarter of this year. Four versions of the New Cherokee are available: Longitude, Business, Limited and Overland. All sport 2,174cc diesel engines that unleash 195 bhp and have automatic transmissions. All the main passive and active safety systems come as standard too. Depending on the version, you can also have front wheel drive (FWD), all-wheel drive (AWD) or four-wheel drive for lower speeds (4WD Low). The S series also introduces a string of glamorous details such as black nappa leather upholstery with tungsten-coloured saddle-stitching, The Night Eagle is the coolest version of all. La Jeep_® Cherokee è, per certi versi, l’auto dei record. È sul mercato da 44 anni e, delle sue innumerevoli versioni, sono state vendute oltre quattro milioni di unità. Può essere considerata, inoltre, l’antesignana europea dei SUV e dei Crossover, di quelle macchine cioè che possono essere usate con disinvoltura sia in città sia in situazioni di terreno o di meteo più impegnative. Un’auto che, nonostante il crescente successo fatto riscontrare sul mercato europeo negli ultimi anni, non riposa sugli allori e continua a rinnovarsi. Se a settembre è stata infatti presentata la Nuova Cherokee, sei mesi dopo, all’ultimo Salone dell’auto di Ginevra, hanno fatto la loro comparsa anche la versione S più glamour, che strizza l’occhio ad un uso più metropolitano e la Trailhawk, pensata per le sfide più estreme. Entrambe queste versioni arriveranno in Europa nel secondo trimestre di quest’anno. La Nuova Cherokee è disponibile in quattro allestimenti: Longitude, Business, Limited e Overland. Tutti montano un propulsore alimentato a gasolio da 2174 cc di cilindrata e 195 cv di potenza, sono dotati di cambio automatico e dispongono di serie di tutti i principali sistemi di sicurezza attivi e passivi. A seconda degli allestimenti si potranno poi avere la trazione anteriore, quella integrale o quella integrale a marce ridotte. La serie S introduce infine una serie di dettagli glamour come gli interni in nappa nera con impunture color tungsteno, e trova la sua apologia nel modello Night Eagle, il più cool di tutti, anch’esso di prossima disponibilità.
